Hi Guys,
Just wanted to let you all know about a problem PeterNap recently had with his JM454.
First off he had large amounts of water in the tank. We are talking close to a half gallon here. Now these problems started several weeks ago. But we got the bowl off and cleaned put a new filter on then had to bleed the high pressure lines. Ok everything was fine so we closed up and left. Next time he went to use the tractor it ran a few min and quit. Well he changed the filter again but it still would not run. So he called me and we went back out. The system was full of air again. So we bled the high pressure lines again and got it running a few min later it quit again. Now what. More water more air? So we drained the tank and used a shop vac in reverse to blow the tank out. Which worked well got another pile of water out. Bled the high press. lines again. What a PITA. Well we now know all the water is out and the system is dry and sealed up tight. WRONG It runs a few min. again and quits more air in the lines. But where is it coming from. Peter or I had no ideas. But something just wasn't right. Getting a bit miffed at this point. Started back tracking everything done at this point still couldn't find the problem.
Next I started following the fuel flow from the tank. To the fuel bowl to the transfer pump all good. Next from the transfer pump to the filter. Wait a min no fuel ran back out when I removed the banjo bolt at the filter Weird Right? So off comes that line and low and behold its stopped up. We tried blowing it out and the air compressor wouldn't budge it. So off to NAPA to get a new line. No luck while we are there they tell us that its a high pressure line wrong low pressure I tell them. So standing at the counter fooling around with the line trying to get stuff to make something that will work. Next thing I just pulled the ends out of the crimps. The line had swollen up shut tight. So we got some 1/4" fuel line and small clamps and made up a new line in the truck on the way back. So now we know where all the air was coming in and why it was. All that trouble over a peace of crap line poorly made.
But I still don't know what caused that line to swell closed in the first place. But if any of you end up with mysterious fuel problems check out the lines.
I hope our two days of frustration helps someone down the line.
Larry
