Ever since my tractor was new I've had oil dripping from the top of the valve cover. I thought it was coming from the middle 2 studs that hold the valve cover on. They have some of those crush seal with rubber in the center washers.
I was going to try to fix it this weekend. I popped the hood and was looking around. The engine had been running for about 2 hrs and sure nuff there was the oil running off the valve cover in 2 spots.
The engine tag sits right between the 2 middle studs. i happened to push down on it and oil gushed out from under it. So, I grabbed a corner and pulled. It came right up along with the little pop rivet that held it on. So i pulled out the remaining 3.
After hunting around in the truck I found my multi-meter and grabbed one of the leads off it. I pushed it in one of the holes for the rivets. Low and behold the hole went completely through.
Theres the oil drip after all this time. Since I was at the farm I made a quick repair. I grabbed 4 small sheet metal screws and plugged the holes. No more oil drip.
This has been really annoying having to wipe the cover and side of the engine all the time.

I know how annoying little leaks can be. You got that right!!! BTW, congrats on your property purchase. you'll have something to do now for a long long time, lol. I've been working for 3 yrs now, trying to turn our small family farm back to a working farm. Not having a great deal of cash to play with it's going to take at least another 4 yrs or so to get where i want to be. If we make any money off the small tobacco crop this year the proceeds are going to buy some fencing material. And so it goes, on and on. My hope is to one day semi-retire at the farm. I won't be able to fully retire till age 65(if i live that long). I'll have to keep some sort of job with health insurance till age 65 since already having one open heart bypass i need insurance. My luck, if i let my insurance go then i would need another bypass 1 day before I was eligible for medicare!!!!! Then there goes all your money. Don't work too hard on that new homestead.

Dwayne, I'll bet you're relieved that's all it was! It's funny what you find when you start tearing, or in your case, just prodding a little on these tractors. I have found some interesting things on my Kama as well. As is usually the case, quality control has something to do with it. Rob-

What you are doing sounds a bit like what we want to do. Our goal is to be mostly self supporting. I hope to continue to work but the more I can work at home the happier I will be. I would like to wish you the best luck in getting your working farm to produce a profit. KIDD
