Rob, I think you could rule out valve guides/seals, cause they usually burn oil out the exhaust and usually only on startup. It clears after the engine starts. What you are describing sounds like ring blowby to me. I could see how routing this FOG into the intake could cause carbon buildup.....especially on the exhaust valves. (hotter)

Personally, that "breather" looks like a P.O.S.
If I were you, I would have a lot of talent and $$$ ;D ...but seriously, I would take it off and if it is nothing more than a cast breather housing with no reeds etc, I would make a plate to replace it that had a 90 degree elbow on it with a 3/4" or 1" nipple end. You could then order up a cool K&N breather filter and connect the two with a piece of Gates Green Stripe breather/heater hose and be done with it. It would probably minimize the oily mess.
I don't think it is anything to worrk about. You could get a HF diesel compression tester and take readings to check engine health but is it worth it? I mean, it is a tractor after all.

If I were you, I would have...........never started this thread HaHaHa. Rob I remember seeing the breather that Ken so eloquently refers to as a "P.O.S." The blow by did not seem all that bad to me, so maybe forgetaboutit? If the oil vapors and subsequent residue are bothering you, then Kens suggestion to put a decent K&N filter to fashion your own mist eliminator will work quite nicely. Looks to me like there is plenty of room to work with.
It's running strong, the only thing that may be of concern is the oil usage. If it's rings, cylinder sleeves, pistons valve guides or whatever it's only going to get worse over time, and you will be fixing it sooner or later anyway. Remember Bill Morey? he rebuilt his Benye engine, so if he can do it so can you. I would wait till it blows, maybe it never will?

I agree with you, I'll wait 'till it blows up then rebuild this one at my leisure if it ever does. I can't believe the smoke from the breather did not show up in that photo. It wasn't real bad, but I thought for sure it would show up. I probably shouldn't have even started this post like you said. But you know what, I learned a few things anyway. Thanks, Rob-

Hi Rob,
As the others have said, it probably isn't something you need to be real concerned about at the moment. As long as there are no tinkling, banging or other sounds, isn't using a lot of oil and works ok, I wouldn't worry about it. Besides which, you have your hands full with the new house and the new Jinma and don't need any other distractions.
I can just picture your new place when it is finsihed. You will have the movie companies lining up to rent if for the movies ;D ;D ;D ;D
Cheers
