Here's a simple direct drive winch I built with a Hydraulic motor I got on eBay. The motor is 15.25 cu/in rev has a 1" keyed shaft. I got two motors for $35 ea. the guy had a pallet full of these and was basically giving them away ;D The valve is easily feathered so I can control the speed of the motor rather well. I'll not go into all the details so as not to bore you: Top View: Bottom view: Left Side view: The winch fits nicely into the TPH receiver hitch. Right Side view: Front view: I built this to pull my submersible water well pump, fortunately I haven't had to pull the pump (yet). So I attached 100' of 5/16" cable and use it to drag logs through the woods where my tractor doesn't fit, I've also used it for various pulling and lifting jobs. Larry

Wow, great job Larry! You should buy more motors from the guy, make a bunch of these and sell them on eBay. Added value!

Yeah, great idea Larry. You saw my hydraulic winch project when you were at camp. I'll be working on that this coming week. I like your idea of simplicity. You are very creative. Rob-

Thanks for the comments guys, This simple winch was built specifically to pull my submersible well pump next time it fails. So far the pump is still working. Seems this project turned out as insurance to prolong that from happening. I have used it a few times for pulling logs out of tight spots.
