We have a freeze proof water hydrant near the Barn. It's about 10 years old and started leaking under ground somewhere about 6 months ago. I turned off the supply to it when I noticed the water well was cycling too often. I finally dug it up to see if it could be fixed. Got out the BH and started digging it up. It's about 3.5 feet down. I took my time working slowly around the pipe so as to not clobber the hydrant or tear out the supply line and make matters worse. Larry

After hitting the gravel installed for drainage, I stopped using the Hoe. The gravel around the pipe was removed by hand. Then I turned on the supply line to see what was going on. I found that the Hydrant was leaking all the time out the drain hole even with the hydrant in the off position. This is the stream of water that was flowing out. I had to remove the hydrant and cap off the line so as not to get dirt into it. Larry

Took the hydrant into the shop and removed the base valve. The plunger on the end of the rod was all tore up. So it would not seal when in the off position. Fortunately my Wife Esther was in town visiting the craft shows. I gave her a call on her cell and asked her to stop by Homer Depot on her way home to pick up a new hydrant. - She said No Problemo. Here is the brand new hydrant installed. I replaced all the gravel around it and put some plastic over the top to help reduce the soil infiltrating into the gravel. Larry

I used the FEL on the Jinma 354 to back fill the hole and pack it down. All Done ;D If I had to dig this by hand (which I did when I first installed it 10 years ago) I would have been out there for two days. What projects do you use your your tractor for? Larry

Just had to make this tractor related with that first and last post huh? Everything you wrote will soon be of real value to me, as you saw, it does freeze and snow at my place. So I'm sure I'll need to bookmark this thread for when my stuff freezes over and have to repair it with a Freeze Proof Hydrant! Thanks Larry. Rob-
