That 378 Magnum is nuts! They say it has 3X recoil to a 30-06... Shit that's knarley! Takes down elephants in one shot. Yeah, it's one powerful cartridge. Many years a go I walked into an Elk hunting camp with it and there were a bunch of other hunters around the campfire. One of the guys asked what it was and I told him it was .378WBY. He said "Hahaha, what are you gonna shoot with THAT?" I said " Pretty much anything I want to." ;D He shut up after that. Mine has a muzzle brake on it, so the recoil is lessened by about 30-40%. But it is still big. The noise it makes is incredible ... like a small cannon. In recent years Weatherby came out with a .378-.338 and a .378-.30. They are "necked down" .378 WBY cartridges to .338 and to .30 cal. Man, those thing must zing out there. I like the big big bullet for stopping power and retained energy down range. Rob-

I've shot a .300 Weatherbee Mag a few times and it packed a punch and can just imagine that the 378 punches a bit more. talk about reach out and touch. Anyone ever handle and shoot a Taurus called "The Judge"? I seen one at gander Mountain and fell in love with it. just looking for opinions. I have several pistols (.22, .380, 357 mag, 45 ACP). This 'Judge' would be the ultimate carry. A 45 ACP that also shoots .410 3" shotgun shells. www.taurususa.com/whatsnew/revolvers.cfmAny opinions?

The Judge is cool. I like that it is something different. Been thinking about one myself.
I just don't know what it's actual use is. As a handgun I don't see much benifit over a 15rnd Glock .40cal.
Could be very cool for snakes or birds up close (Probally 10 yards).
A fun piece to talk about for sure.

I've heard a lot about the Judge ... all good. It's nice to have pistol like that where you can switch cartridges from bullets to shotshell. I know .410 ammo is expensive, but it would sure be nice to carry a shotgun like that in pistol form. Below are some rifle cartridges for comparison. Starting on the left and going right, the first one is a .22 long rifle. Next to that is the .17HMR. It's the same as a .22 mag except necked down to .17 caliber. Next to that is .30 carbine for the m-1 and next to that is the 30-30 round. Next to that is the .240 Weartherby magnum round. It's just like a .243 except about a half in longer case. Next to that is the 30:06 round (my favorite) and the last cartridge is the .378 Weatherby magnum. That gives you an idea what that cartridge looks like in comparison to the others. The following picture show some different pistol cartridges. From the left again is the .22 long rifle and to the right of it is the .380 round. Next to that is the 9mm and next to that is the .357 mag round. Next to that is the .45 acp and the last one on the right is the .50 cal Action Express that my Desert Eagle shoots. It's close to the same length as a.44 mag, but it's a half inch round. I gave my .44 Super Blackhawk to my son when I got the .50 cal.

Nice rifles everyone and new "freebie" hand gun there Dick. The closest I came to scoring a free firearm was returning an Enterprise rental car I had while my company van was in the shop. Upon returning the rental, the agent went through the car with a fine tooth comb, when she looked under the driver seat, she just about screamed! She asked "is that yours?" Being a dummy I asked - is what mine? That gun? So I reached under the seat and pulled out a cheap snub nose Saturday night special (.38 cal) Being honest I said no it was not mine, it was loaded. After a short discussion, I found out undercover cops rent enterprise cars for undercover work, the last cop that had this car must have forgot and left his "throw away gun" under the seat. It probably came from the evidence locker confiscated from some bank robber or murderer. With the downturn in the economy and being on a tight budget this is the best I could scrape up to protect myself after "O" is sworn into office - ammo is cheap (16 penny nail gun strips). At least the ammo wont be outlawed! Larry

The Judge is a no go in California (or any 410 pistol) Considered a short barrel shotgun.
F'n liberals!

Thanks Larry and I love the "nail"rifle! The "freebie" was all the more interesting to me as where I come from ALL hand guns are illegal ( they were completely banned although they were almost impossible to get anyway, after a massacre of school children in Scotland by a maniac with a pistol) even the Police do not carry them. I had only shot about 4 rounds with an (undeclared) Colt .455 revolver once before in my life. Things are much more lax here, but being a resident "foreigner" didn't think it worth the effort of applying for something. Apropos Robs Weatherby .378 Magnum Hefalump Rifle, I don't recall if I wrote about it before or not but when I was 19, a long, long time ago I was treasurer of a local clay pigeon (Skeet) club and one day a somewhat older member brought a Holland and Holland double barreled 375 magnum rifle with him that he was going to take Bear shooting in Hungary, I was allowed a shot and was told to sit down and pull my knees up a little, the kick was more like a huge push on the shoulder than a kick and I slid backward some. I remember that the propellant was cordite sticks in the shell case and a yellow flame leaped from the barrel and was about 2 yards in length. Happy days Dick

...This 'Judge' would be the ultimate carry. A 45 ACP that also shoots .410 3" shotgun shells... ya.. got one with 3" bbl.. They DO make them to chamber 3" .410 now, but I opted for the 2.5" model... even so, the frame is still a bit long-ish. at any rate.. .410/2.5" and 45 colt.. aka 45 long colt.. (not ACP).. They're promoted as snake guns 'round these parts.. but we simply call it "the nightstand gun." For me, it seems a little large/long for concealed carry, but I know some folks carry 1911's... so I guess it wouldn't be unheard of. at work now but I'll try to remember to post a pic of it when I get home.

That is a cool gun.
Rob's not kidding about the sweetness and acuracy of his modified 30:06. My son had a blast shooting it and it has a very nice rapport.
I am starting to feel like I need to buy me some more guns! ;D
