I decided to modify my parking brake lever so it would be easier to reach. I added some 1-1/4” x 1/8” flat bar to the existing lever in three sections. This preserved the original handle end and latching mechanism. I also added an additional spacer on the back-side of the lever where it pivots against the transmission housing to help keep it from popping off of the brake pedal “pins”. I need to mount a secondary spring as the extra weight acts as a lever (on the lever... ) making the resistance to pull the lever too light for me.

Hmmm, very nice Ken. Best one I've seen so far. How stable is it from not getting twisted sideways when you yank back on it? Rob-

Thanks. It works fairly well. I added to the stability by removing some of the side play by using a thicker washer on the outside that is secured by the cotter pin and welding on a spacer (code for "large nut"...as opposed to the large nut behind the steering wheel... ) on the back side next to the pivot spacer and it is made out of thicker cold-rolled flat bar that is very hard to twist. I still think I need to add a secondary stiffer spring as I can't rotate the factory spring further to "clock" in more tension. I will probably add it to the steering column mount just above the lever. I should have some HD carb linkage springs around somewhere... It is much easier than reaching waaaaayyy down to engage the brake lever. I really do not like the lever/pin arrangement and may do what Matthew did re: using an automotive ratcheting type. I do get on and off quite a bit when clearing brush or moving heavy stuff so it does help.

Hey Ken, I really like your mod to your parking brake lever. Very slick. Very clean, although as you say, the engagement on the other end could sure use improvement. When you throw this one away, after you come up with your next improved iteration, make sure to throw it at me!
