During a recent road trip for work I had at a few copper mines. I traveled through the Gila National forest, also known as "The Black Range" (due to it being heavily forested). It's located in the southwest corner of the state. The road that traverses through the mountains is 49 miles without a single straight stretch! Top speed if you push it is 35 MPH, (narrow, no guard rails and lots of shear cliff's.
Just before entering the range, I got this shot of a juvenile Red-tail Hawk, light color species.
About half way through the mountains, upon turning one of many bends in the road I came across these 6 deer, one very young buck and 5 doe. They hung out for quite a while, giving me time to get out my camera to take a few shots at close range.
I took this video of the young buck from my van about 15 feet away, I could not believe it. I stopped right in the middle of the road, with my radio blaring, I started to get out to see if I could get a closer shot, but he got spooked when another car came around the bend and slammed on it's breaks.
I later came across several more deer in numerous spots but didn't take any more pics.
Further up the road at around 8000 feet, around another turn by a stream, I came across this rafter of turkeys, there must have been at least sixty. I lost count as they were everywhere. This is the same spot where I often come across packs of Javelina, no pics of them this time, the turkeys were in town, maybe next time.
I always look forward to traveling across this section of the state.
