Shotley, That sounds like a good way to start it, crank it with the fuel off and decompression activated. Keeps the fuel from leaking past the rings and down into the oil. I know that has been brought up by RonMar before. Richard, I have used 30 seconds on Loretta's Jinma a couple times when it's really cold and no problem with that. Normally, I hold for 20 seconds if not too awful cold. But I like what shotley does. Rob-

I have started the 204 at least a dozen times since I installed the new glow plugs. I started running the starter until the oil pressure comes up each time and most of the time it has been about 25 degrees. I pre heat for about 25 seconds at that temperature and it has started easily and smoothed right out each time. Thanks to whoever mentioned the oil pressure idea. I used the decompression lever when getting the oil pressure up. I don't have a block heater on the tractor but do have the option of using a wood furnace to heat the super inulated building up if needed.

A few weeks ago I pulled the glow plugs to check them. Only one was bad which I replaced. Fortunately that plug came out with the copper washer. The other 2 did not. How do you remove that tiny washer from that tiny hole if it does not come out with the plug? RonJ

How do you remove that tiny washer from that tiny hole if it does not come out with the plug? RonJ Sometimes a tiny hook on a stiff wire? Sometimes pull the engine stop cable and spin the starter and it will blow out? Sometimes a long / correct sized, sheet metal screw ( do with caution)? Sometimes just reuse the old one? The copper washer, on the plug I took out today, was crushed onto the plug. I asumed they were chrush washers, are they? The washer on the new plug was loose, I used grease to hold the washer when installing. Richard

I took one out with some very thin needle nose pliers. I used to work on small electronic equipment so am used to it. It helps when you steady the side of your hand on something. Good reading glasses at my age with a good light also helps. I have a selection of stainless steel picks that will pry small stuff loose also.

RonJ RonJ I would bet the ranch (pun intended) that Ron @ Ranchhand has actually done this. I have spoken to him on the phone and he is very knowledgeable and helpful -even though I didn't buy my "crate" tractor from him Just my two cents -Ed

Hi .. I had some questions some time ago and just got back to my son's tractor . I am wondering .. where the glow plugs "hookup at"? Here is a video I took .. to help with the what is going on . youtu.be/TXuiWEOJr8QCurrently the glow plugs aren't working - where would you start to begin .. I don' t have a manual .. etc .. the tractor runs good (FOTON 254A ) I am not sure if the FUSE is in the for the "turn key" for the glow plugs or if it is just not hooked up . any suggestions would sure help . (I am going to post in several places as I don't know who is still on here .. I hope that is okay!) I guess I am asking .. I found the glow plugs. where does the wire that runs to them run/go ? PLease Thanks SO much !!! Gary

Bruce, Are your glow plugs hooked up? - Many of them are not connected from the factory. I'm pretty sure Loretta's 284 came that way (not hooked up). When you turn the key to the position Rob describes above, watch your ammeter, it should pretty much peg to -30 amps, then slowly reduce to -25 - 20 amps as they warm up, that is if they are connected and operating. Let up know how it glows Larry Hi .. I had some questions some time ago and just got back to my son's tractor . I am wondering .. where the glow plugs "hookup at"?
