I just talked to my brother Greg - the last few years in WI they have used a program called Earn-a buck to thin the deer herds. You have to shoot and register an antlerless deer before you can shoot a buck. Now deer are scarce and hunters are fed up. They marched on Madison this week and won a moratorium on the program. Here's an early news story featuring my brother. The video was at our home place. www.fox11online.com/dpp/news/local_wluk_hunters_voice_concerns_to_dnr_20093242235_rev1

I believe the automobile insurance industry is behind crap like this program. the white tail deer costs them millions a year in auto claims. They would be thrilled if the deer were hunted into extinction, it would be a lot better for their "bottom-line" In PA they increase the number of doe tags issued every year, and it`s starting to take it`s expected toll. There are a lot less deer around my neck of the woods, they call it deer management, I call it deer genocide.

They have created huge no-hunting zones around populated areas that have the affect of upping car accidents. Their cure for the problem is to increase hunting of does in the allowable hunting areas (rural areas) which don't have a problem.
This does nothing to address the problem in the populated areas where all the Bambi lovers live. They want to see the deer but don't want them killed except where they don't have to see it.

The government (local, state and federal) has the ability to f-up a good dream. These "laws". "bills", "ordinances" etc. are drawn up by paper pushers who have only seen "pictures" of a deer but don't know any more about it. Often times they are driven by their desire to avoid conflict with the animal rights wackos and other liberal groups. They cannot see the "big picture" and their "long range planning" (on a variety of levels) is a complete joke. They are completely ruled by cowardly/no balls attitudes and are beholden to whoever will keep them in power. This transcends this deer issue and I see it everyday. It really pisses me off but contrary to popular belief, if you talk too much or too loudly about an issue that you have facts and a belief in, you are viewed as a "gadfly", slightly deranged and not to be believed. Welcome to what government in the USA has become. It really is a sad commentary on how uninvolved and uneducated the voting populace has become in this country. We are getting closer to a socialist state every day and we all know how well those are funtioning these days. Enough ranting, go shoot something and eat it (I like elk jerky!!!) ;D ;D ;D

This is very similar to the fox hunting contraversy in Great Briton a couple years ago when all the city dwellers voted fox hunting out of existence. The city dwelling votors have no stake in the how the number of foxes affect rural dwellers.
