I heard of a guy who was selling screened farm field top soil for $280 a triaxle load which around here is 22 tons. I called the guy and ordered a load, it looks good and hardly a pebble can be found. I have a lot of spots that need dirt like the side of the gravel drive. A friend who is an avid gardener offered me three large mounds of ornamental grasses if I would come over with the backhoe to dig them out. The backhoe dug them out nicely and I trailered them over to my place for planting. One is called Maiden Grass, the other Zebra Grass and the last I have forgotten the name of. I was able to put in the Zebra Grass in mound intact, but the other two were so large I had to split them up. I would up with eight decent sized plantings of these grasses. Paul

Oh man Paul, Here I thought I was doing really good growing my crummy little lawn (compared to yours). Heck, I even bought a lawn mower just in case the fricken grass would actually grow ... what a waste of money. I was going to brag about the lawns (I have 2 of them) and share them in the log home thread, but now I have to wait a couple months until the guys forget about this thread a little. Then maybe I'll get the nerve up. ;D Thanks for sharing those great photos. Your place looks awesome... Rob-

Paul that load of topsoil looks huge until you pull your machine up to it! Betcha it didn't go far enough; never does! I need some topsoil bad but not this year Spent over $500 on seed and half of the lawn is weeds
Rob what kind of mower did you buy? Noticed you over at the Mytractor forums was looking over their threads after I bought a 2003 craftsman GT5000 that didn't have 10 hrs on it The mower deck looked brand new After I put the Jimna front weights on the back the sucker is like a tank cannot stop it! -Ed

Thanks Rob, with the wet summer we`ve had at least the lawn didn`t brown up on us, it has needed at least weekly cutting, sometimes twice a week. Yes Ed the load is never enough, I`m spreading this load out like a miser, but I`ll need another load or two I`m sure. I had weeds taking over the lawn also and tried Ortho Weed Be Gone with Crabgrass Killer in the green bottle. I mix it 5ozs to 2gallons of water in a hudson sprayer and spot spray the weed patches. The stuff works great, doesn`t harm the grass at all, but it`s hell on the weeds, and one hour after application the lawn is safe for pets and people.
