What great info. It looks like standard pipe fittings, is that correct? (very clean also unlike mine) Did you guys use some kind on pipe dope on the threads, also is that PVC? The top link is attached to the tractor in the bottom hole, I was thinking of moving it up to the top to see what difference it would make, your thoughts? (I have 3 holes to attach it) Any how I left my books in the camper on the farm so I have to wait till I get down their to look through them again on that draft control, sure hope that stuff sinks in next time I read it. Next question-Is the top link come in different lengths? When I put the bush hog on I have to shorten it as short as I can get it & I think I need a little shorter, I think that would give me more ground clearance. I have some very large rocks that I prefer to not hit with the blade. Some of the grass on the east side of the pond was 4 ft. tall, good hiding place for the rocks. In the picture the far side of the pond was the tallest, I made 2 passes with the 6ft bush hog & cannot see that path in the picture. Thanks for the help

3/4" pipe threads fit my tractor loose enough that I put an o-ring around the fitting and it bottoms against that.
The hole you attach the top link to will affect the draft sensitivity and of course the top link geometry. I actually had an incident with my box blade where I was running the top link fully short to dig the scarifiers in and when I caught a root there was enough give in the draft sensing linkage that the top link flipped past center and the whole box blade flipped 90 degrees! (the bottom was facing straight back) There was no real damage but I did have to adjust the drawbar hitch the next time I hooked up my backhoe. Apparently when the rotating box blade smacked into it the alignment changed. Selecting the lowest hole should minimize the risk of that.
Top links are available in a variety of lengths. I actually got a longer one at Agri Supply to use with the bush hog on my Belarus tractor. The King Kutter "bush hog" has a floating connection for the top link. I like it sort of loose so the mower is supported by the tail wheel and lower links while the top link floats. Double check the pin sizes on your OEM toplink. Mine was advertised as Cat 2 but it's an odd size. You may have to use some bushings to get a good fit.

I think 3/4" pipe fittings would be a good fix. Brad your setup looks easy enough. Vent hole is about the same place as mine & my vent with the dip stick looks the same also. Well my friend says I have a class 1 setup, but I will keep your thoughts in mind. I'll have to measure the length on my link before I can even begin to look, Thanks for that info. I was thinking when going over rough areas I would like to raise the mower off the ground, did I mention I have some big rocks & some ditches, I would think I should be able to lift the whole darn thing off the ground. Attached is a picture on my setup. In the full up position the wheel touches the ground.

Yep, you need a shorter top link. On mine, the "U" shaped piece on the mower is horizontal when I adjust the top link as short as it will go and then the whole mower lifts about two feet off the ground in the up position.

That is good news.
After losing the engine dip stick I got to thinking about building a skid plate for the bottom just to keep branches & such from doing damage, have any of you done anything to the bottom to protect your lines & stuff? I have a sheet of steel that is taking up space in the garage for to many years that in my mind could be cut & mounted to keep stuff from reaching up from the bottom. What do you think about such a thing. (I didn't take a picture of it yet but I put a screwdriver marked with purple tape in place of the dip stick till I get something to replace it)
Update: This afternoon I went to the local TSC looking for a short cat 1 top link & they did not have one, the price of a regular top link is $20. I will check with some local places in Ky next time I am down their. Rural King has been mentioned by one of the neighbors.

Next time down at the farm I want to adjust the clutch, the book is a bit confusing. Any advice would be helpful. (Yes I have been reading about others doing this but still nervous. The pictures in the book leave a bit to the imagination.) Thanks in advance. (I have a FT 404, 3 cylinder, Fujian- now Foton)
