Hi Everyone, Last night I replaced the factory hydro filter and housing with parts from NAPA. Now my TPH lifts as soon as you start my 354 I haven't tried the FEL yet as I left it off to do some maintenance. The part # for the housing is 4034 and the filter # is1453. This filter has the bypass built into the filter not in the housing like the factory unit. The cost at NAPA was kind a high 37$ for both parts compared to about 15$ at northern But the northern parts looked to be made just like the OEM. This set up from NAPA is a bolt in fit actually better than factory as its about 1/4" longer which made the piping fit better. The angry bees are gone on cold starts now. One thing I noticed was a piece of Teflon tape across the end of the suction side fitting on the filter housing. I wonder how much of a problem that was causing? It was all the way across so it looks like the fluid was having to pass through the Teflon tape. Its a wonder it was working at all. I hope if anyone is going to make this change that these part #s help.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FWIW:
What I posted earlier was: - Orig. OEM filter (as shipped) = JX0811A - Repl. OEM filter (f/dealer) = JX85100C - Thread of both = 22mm 1.5mm (pitch) - Pipe nipple sticking out of filter "head" = 16mm long
According to the Napa Technical Data Chart (Pg. 465), there is a range of filters (6 to be exact) that fit the 22mm by 1.5mm requirements. They differ depending on the filter height, O.D., and gasket dimensions. The ones I chose as closest to the JX85100C are:
- #1087 (5.477"H, 3.661"Dia., 19psi bypass) - #1372 (4.167"H, 3.660"Dia., 12-15psi bypass) - #1592 (5.214"H, 3.663"Dia., 18-20psi bypass, requires #5614 gasket (yes, this one is NOT included, unlike the other))
I am probably going to go with the #1087 since it is closest to the factory. This filter needs to be ordered, however it only takes a day or two to get from the Napa warehouse. I'll post once I get it and I may buy two so I can cut one apart along with my original JX0811A and eventually the JX85100C to check the differences.
Larry:
I have no idea why yours is 3/4"-11 unless it is the vintage. I checked my original and it is somewhere between 3/4" and 13/16" but is closer to the metric size. I may buy a spare JX85100C when I do the 50 hr. major service just in case. Link to Post - Back to Top Logged gugliols Guest Re: 3-Cyl. Jinma 354 Oil Filter « Reply #1 on Oct 5, 2006, 7:43pm »
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Ken,
Your right, it must be the vintage of mine that uses the 3/4-11 filter.
These are the filters I am able to use OEM & Napa.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I just found out something about my 354. The oil filter "head" has a nipple sticking out for the oil filter to screw on to. Duh.
It also has two threads on it. The inner (screws into the "head") is 20mm x 1.5mm while the outer (filter screws ON to) is a 24mm x 2.0mm thread.
I called Napa and the only comparably sized filter for the larger thread is $42. This is because it is a "hydraulic filter" and not an "oil" filter. I looked at my chart some more and came up with this option to buying extra JX0811A Chinese filters.
If I change the nipple going into the head to a 20mm x 1.5mm size and blue Loctite it in for security, I can use a Napa Gold #1182, which is almost identical to all of the factory filter dimensions.
It is also around $12.
I just need to either find a source for the nipples or make my own. Keno Tractors was really interested since they are trying to standardize all on the Napa/Wix brands but are having difficulty since the Chinese change what they ship each time and as we all know by now, they do not always ship what is required for your/our specific tractor purchase with your/our "spare parts box".
Maybe one of our dealer friends on this forum can chime in with their $.02 for reference.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Another thought. Maybe we can get a replacement filter head that bolts to the block just like the factory unit so we can use the 3/4" x 16 or 18 thread SAE units like Larry's.
OAN, Keno informed me that they are changing out the factory suction strainer head (down by the starter with the new spin-on filter) to the Northern Tool model (like the one Rob (3rrl) gave me ) since they were having BIG problems with the Chinese ones blowing the plastic balls up and grenading pumps.
I know what I am doing tomorrow evening. Link to Post - Back to Top Logged ranchhand Junior Member

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ken, I just got in some nipples this week that will upgrade the filter head to accept a Wix 51515, Napa 1515 etc , etc ............... or factory JX85100A.
Just teflon tape in the new/replacement nipple.

Well Thanks
I am glad someone had this info. The hydro filter is a good mod. If you happen to have the brake job please post it to so others may use that too. I know I am going to have to go back into my brakes sooner or later and a refresher course would be nice.
THANKS Larry Kidd

Hi Kidd, I have a spin on hydraulic filtre on my 354 on the opposite side of the engine to the oil filtre, it's a Chinese Bengbu Jinwei filtre No. JX0811A, are you saying that the Purolator H30059 is straight equivalent ? I am keen to find an alternative to the Chinese original filtre, bear in mind we don't have NAPA stores down here so any branded names would be best and easier to find alternatives. Dick
