Rehowdy, folks! I'm looking to find a new head gasket for my TS354C. I do remember folks saying my engine (Yd1485) wasn't "normal" as it is direct injected. I'm hoping the head gasket is the same as the "normal" 4cyl (Yd485), so someone might actually have one. ..but, of this, I'm really not sure. Anyone know where to start looking for one? It's been so long, I can't remember what vendors carried what. ..or even how to get ahold of 'em. Thanks, Jake

If it's a YD485 we have the head gasket Tommy, There's the rub.. it's a YD 1485... I don't know if the head gasket is identical as the YD485 or not... or even able to substitute with minor mod, etc...

Doing fine here Jake! My Kama is running good. I'm only at 374 hours. I would've said more in the last post but I was on my way out the door. Sorry to hear you need a head gasket. How's the tractor been runnung otherwise?
How has your cistern system worked out? I'll bet it's full right now!
Still in touch with Doug? Happy Spring Forward! Brad

Tractor has been doing excellent for me, think leak in the gasket has been developing for a little while.. started with a little smoke I couldn't explain (unburned fuel I believe).. now, running on 3 of 4. Even so, still had to use it to lift a crate out of the truck, and it honestly didn't complain too badly, considering. na, haven't heard from Doug in a long time but thought about him recently as he's one who told me about Wholesale Tool. <grin>

So what did you score at Wholesale tool? a heavy ol' crate <-- link ;D will treat it as a learning aid/tool for a few years.. that doesn't take up too much space.

Very nice acquisition Jake, like every other power tool I`ve ever seen I want one. Now if you can just get Larry or Rob to come and give some lessons on it...

LMAO!!! ya, really. ...'cept it would be like rocket scientists trying to teach kindergarten. ..but, I did excel at naptime! by the by.. Chip@Artrac is well aware of the difference in engines (YD485/YD 1485) .. AND.. does have the right parts for both... woot! ;D ;D

Howdy Jake good to see your still kick'n
The new "Crate" looks exactly like mine except the paint color. Did yours come with the stand it's pictured with? Mine didn't so I had to make one.
I was total surprised how heavy that bugger is. Mine's in the basement (oh joy). Esther and I laid down plywood over the stairs, put in on a furniture dolly and let it down the ramp with the ATV cable winch. After that I used a come along to lift by a center beam to get it on the stand. I think it's going to stay there forever now. Used it a bunch to make all kinds of tractor toys.
Enjoy your new toy!
Larry

Machine tools get heavy really quickly, don't they? I bought a Habba Flate gear-head mill drill a couple years ago when it was on sale and they were offering $50 shipping in the US. Good thing, since that beast weighs almost 800# crated. The ocean freight was relatively cheap, since it is based on cubic footage not weight. I have t say that I've been really pleased with the machine, too. The castings and such are Chinese, but pretty darn well done and the electrics are German, of all things. The only issue I've had was the motor run capacitor fried and is an odd size but I found one in my scrounge pile that was close enough to work. I wish I could have afforded the money and space for a Bridgeport J-head, but that was a non-starter for me. Shop and wallet both too small. With my little Atlas/Craftsman 12" lathe and the mill drill I do manage to make most of what I need. I just wish I knew more about machine work. I need someone like you or Rob living next door. ;D

..Did yours come with the stand it's pictured with?.. Yes.. Came with the stand, (and steady & follow rests)... Got it from Wholesale Tool because of the stand and R8 vs MT3 mill... and yes, mine is in the basement also. Have it uncrated but don't have it on the stand yet. Planning to use my engine hoist to put it on the stand... but tractor is demanding my more immediate attention. Head gasket was not the problem. Seemed to slightly (my imagination?) improve, but cyl #2 is still down. So, as soon as I get a day without rain, I'll tear down again/further to check rings/pistons. Gotta get 'er done as her services are already being missed and will soon be "required". I'll keep yall posted. Jake
