My Plott Hound saw him first and started barking his head off, a good sized Black Bear coming to Breakfast. Usually nocturnal this guy was out before 10AM, they apparently woke up early this Spring and are hungry. Paul

Cool! I wish we had a few of those here - they'd sure get fat and sassy on all the tropical fruit. Might find it a bit warm in the winter, though... ;D

Wholly smokes there Paul, "Getoutahere" / "Hurry-up" LOL he minded you real good. That was exciting, the kind of excitement I can do without! We have them along with mountain Lions which are very stealth around our parts which is a good thing as far as I'm concerned. What timing you had to catch that on video - pretty cool stuff.
Rich - you have got to be kidding me - they would never hibernate there in the 'Winter" they would just get very tired and cranky!
All the best - Larry

Rich please come and visit, and take all the Black Bear home that you want, there are at least 5 of them around here, various ages and sizes. Right now they are hitting the bird feeders and garbage cans in the neighborhood pretty regular. Larry I was very glad to see him run like that, there is one his size that has show aggression to humans, I had a problem with him coming around last summer. An old farmer told me what to do, he said take a light 12guage trap load, 1oz of number 8 and wait till he is aprox 65 yards away and shoot him in the rump. It won`t get through the fur, but acts like a slap on the ass, and it worked like a charm, I didn`t see him for the rest of the summer. I was lucky to get the video, I had the camera on the table, and my shelter rescue pup who is now 4 turns out to be a Plott Hound bred in Virginia, they are specifically bred to hunt Black Bear. The first time he saw a bear through the window he literally turned into a "werewolf" something genetic kicked in and he transformed. A bristle brush stood up on the back of his neck and he was snarling, I`m just glad he didn`t go through the glass. He is better now, more used to them I guess, but he is always on sentry duty and is a great early warning system.

Well last night at dusk another of the local Black Bears came to visit, this one was a little smaller and a little braver than the first one was. He actually came up on the front porch within 15ft of the front door before being spotted by one of our Canine sentry`s. Paul
