Dose the pto on my 304 work via the clutch at all. When cutting hay i have to engage the pto and then start With everything running. Is this korrekt or am i missing something?

It should disengage when the clutch pedal is fully depressed. On a 2 stage clutch, the main gearbox clutch should disengage at about 1/2 pedal, PTO at full pedal. This allows you to change gears without slowing/disengaging the impliment being driven by the PTO. If you cannot shift gears when only depressing the pedal 1/2 way, this might be an indication of a mis-adjustment or something with excessive slop in the system. The pedal pushes a rod, the rod pushes a lever that rotates a shaft that runs thru the side of the gearcase. Pay carefull attention to where that lever is pinned to that rod. They MUST move as one. ANY slop here will prevent the PTO clutch from fully disengaging even at full pedal. This is a common point of failure in the clutch system...
