This may sound dumb but has anyone used a I think it is a 501 ford sickle bar on the back of a 2524 jinma tractor? I have used rear mount cutters on larger tractors but none on the one I have now.

Hi Emit and welcome to CTW. Sorry cant help with the sickle bar question. How big is a 501? do you have one? I have looked at several used sickle bars over the years, most were pretty well used up. I imagine they would be more efficient and use less HP than a rotary mower, throwing rocks all over creation would not be a problem. Plus it would be cool to see the weeds and grass just fall over. It would be a great tool for cutting close to the edge of a bank, close to fences or super tall weeds where a rotary mower would bog down due to the huge about of material being mulched. They do seem pricey. Does it have hydraulics to lower and lift the bar?

I've got a couple of old 6' sickle bar mowers which I used on my Fergie 35.... A 25hp Jinma probably has a similar amount of power as my tired Fergie so I can't see why it wouldn't run one ok:) I think I'll start using a sickle bar mower again this year, they give a much better cut and I can mow at a higher speed than with my flail mower... Thanks, no you have to raise the bar by hand. You just get on the end (with everything off) an walk it up an lock it in. I will be cutting hay this year for my son in law so I am using his cutter. He is going to pull the baler with his large ford.

I've got a sickle bar that came on Fergie, but I've never used it. Someday after I get settled up at the ranch, I will get it operational and use it on the Kama. Rob-

Rob, That's a badass set of hand held hedge trimmers.
Emit - I think a sickle bar is a pretty efficient cutter. If an 8N can run it I'm sure the Jinma can.
