After getting my new kama I soon realized I needed a way to move it around so, As time and money permitted I started to gather the stuff I needed. First I bought a 16' 7K trailer with one set of axle brakes. Then I bought me a used F250 with 127K on the motor and truck. It only had a cheap class III receiver hitch so I upgraded it to a class IV with an 8K ball and mount. The truck already had a brake controller wired in. I haven't weighed the whole rig but the tractor with backhoe and FEl should be pushing close to 6K and the trailer weighs just a tad over 1K. I'm right there at the max for my trailer but, it seems to handle it well and the truck. I just can't say enough good thing about the 7.3 liter navistar engine and ford truck body.
The ford trucks of this vintage with the diesel engine have a dual mass flywheel. They are prone to failure and this is the 1st thing that had to be done to the truck. It cost me $500 for a LUK clutch conversion kit and about 10 hrs of my time to replace it all. In the 10K I've put on the truck since I bought it I've had to also replace a water pump and fuel pump. Sometime in the next 20K it will probably need the HUEI injectors rebuilt but, after that it should be good to go to 3 or 400K.
This truck pulls the tractor down the road at 70mph like it's not even back there. and gets 20mpg unloaded.

Sweet, your 250 diesel sounds like the perfect combo.
I also have picked up a truck with the same thought in mind... 1987 C20 with a utility bed for 150 bucks. I went a little crazy on it in Nov. with some add-ons. Mine has a small block with some tweaks and I'm not sure how well it will tow.
The diesel is a sure bet....
