Glad to see so many familiar faces here and welcome to everybody. I'm also glad to see so much interest in this member's thread too, where you get to know a little more about everybody. Thanks for sharing. This one should be a good ride... Rob-

Hi everyone, new member post here! I just got a Jinma 284 on Thursday, built Dec of 2007. I spent all day trying to change some fluids and figure out the electrical non-sense, but didn't get far. It's got new oil in it and new oil in the injector pump, and a new ground cable to the starter and the dash is ground better, but beyond that I've just got the fuse panel and wiring harness all opened up and I'm scouring the local auto parts places looking for yellow metal compatible 80w90. So far I've driven it on to the tractor, then off and into my garage. I was so afraid of the sludge messing up my new machine. Unfortunately, the assembler put an hour on it before I got it, so whatever damage may be done is done. I'm hoping for a long and useful life for my tractor, and although I see a lot of great mods here I'm hoping to not have to change anything It's got an american FEL of some unknown brand with a prince valve, but that's it so far. I'm in Portland, OR, with three acres to my name. I got a tractor because mowing takes three hours and was killing my expensive little riding mower, and every time we needed to haul material or do anything serious it was back breaking. We've got a long long gravel drive and the remnants of new shop construction everywhere, so it was time to get a tractor. By the time I'd paid rental fees I could have practically bought one. To compound needs, we bought an investment home on an acre that is in desperate need of having an old garage knocked down and the whole yard re-landscaped. Thus, the new toy just made sense. Plus...I've always secretly wanted a tractor As a newbie, what would be MOST useful is a synopsis of all the 'stuff' that needs to be done to the generic chinese tractor, and a small 'how to'. For instance, a list of all the fluids to change and a where-to-look and what filter/fluid to get, a list of the common bolts to tighten/check for existence, and a list of known electrical problems. Same could go for hydraulics. I realize this would be model specific and change with time, but as the Jinmas seem to be leading the way, seems a good place to start. If I get time/remember, this is one of my first goals while posting on this site. I'm sure I'll find lots of help here, and maybe even contribute. Thanks!

Hi Torgy and welcome. Your 284 should do you right with the chores you have listed. My wife just bought that same tractor and is having a lot of fun with it. Now that you've told us about yourself and your tractor a little, I suggest you start a new thread under Jinma where you can ask all the questions you want. That way it will be tractor specific. You'll get a lot of responses there. Some things you can tell us about, for example are, what kind of loader is it and was it a crate tractor or pre-assembled. Then we can address each of your questions. Rob-

Hello everyone! I am a new member from Germany. Just want to give a short introduction of myself, as some members here may already know me.. So.. i am from Borken, Nordrheinwestfalen, Germany. This Area is called Münsterland and this is farmland here. Its located in the north-west of Germany, near the Netherlands border. My occupation is electrician, but i have always enjoyed mechanical work. I live on a small piece of land surrounded by farmland. So i am not a farmer myself, but own a tractor. I have fun with every kind of machine and especially enjoy the possibilities a tractor gives. Like towing, lifting and so on.. And thats what i need it for at the moment.. mainly for handling logs and branches and for maintaining a dirt road leading to my place. I got a Jinma 204 with an FEL in early 2007. Its the model with the plastic fenders. A nice machine, though i had not too much time yet to get into the deeps of it. The first thing i did was to change the factory FEL valve. It was really a bit rugged and i replaced it with three double action valves. The third one is for a future projects, like to mount a grapple or use it for a log splitter. Other projects are all intended to help me with the woods. So i purchased a counterweight and welded together a logging tong. I don't have too much time for all of this, because my girlfriend lives 280 km away from me and i have to do a lot of travelling at the weekends. Or she has.. :-) Also i have to complete my loft expansion. And last but not least we both love to travel. Either here in Germany are many regions to explore. Or all over the world. And thats where my GF and i met.. in Bolivia :-) Recently i builded a fork for the FEL, which is very useful for me.. but more of that later. Thank you for forums like this.. it gives a lot of fun and help for exotic tractor users! And if you don't mind here are some pics from our recent holidays in Western Australia:
B.t.w, this is me:
No.. this is me:

Willkomen Chris. (Tortuga) Wir sind sehr glucklich und froh um Sie zum haben regiestriest im unserem Klub.
(Welcome Chris. Were lucky and happy to have you in the club)
We have members from around the world, The Americas, Europe, Australasia etc. I am a Brit but moved to Chile some four and a half years ago, when you were meeting your girlfriend in Bolivia you were almost next door to me! There is a wealth of information and expertise here and many members willing to help with problems as I can witness from personal experience. Is the girlfriend from Bolivia or was she a German tourist like you? I ask because every time we holiday in a neighboring country we meet beautiful German female dentists enjoying the strength of the Euro! why they are all dentists I don't know, anyway, a huge welcome
Dick
PS Which one in the picture is you? the one in the front or the one behind the branches? whichever , you have very furry ears that should help survive the north western German winters a bit.

Hi Dick!
Danke für den Willkommensgruß!
My girlfriend is also from Germany, but she is no dentist :-) I have travelled Chile as well, have been to the north, Antof*gasta and San Pedro de Atacama, also Santiago and with that fabulous night train to Puerto Montt. Then by plane to Punta Arenas and visiting Torres del Paine NP. There i had the strongest winds ever, could easily lean forward without falling! A very spectacular country indeed!
Chris
P.S. You are right, these furry ears help a lot with cold weather! :-)

Glad you know Chile, I love it! could never go back to the UK! I also know San Pedro de Atacama, was there 4 years ago , the place was full of old hippies from around the world so I was right at home.I live in Santiago and have a small farm near the coast straight west from Santiago, also know Puerto Monte and a bit further south. Love Valdivia, did you go there? we have a Daughter who is in the Ministry of Agriculture there. Hope you enjoy your time here at CTWF , I have a Jinma 354 and like it a lot! Spent a bit of time in Holland a few years ago near the border with Germany, a place called Ter Apel (Maybe I spelled that wrong)anywhere near you? I bought two Trabants and sold them both before I could get them home!! those were the days!

Hi Dick! I looked up Ter Apel, seems to be about 100 km north of me. In terms of your longest country on earth Ter Apel could be called near of me. Anyway, never been there. Trabants..oh my. Blue, stinky Dust! You rarely see one here today because of the exhaust regulations. We did not see Valdivia, travelled by train and bus to Puerto Mont and then by plane to Punta Arenas. Chris

Biggerten here, my real name is Tom, someone sent me an email and I've been reading here a while.
I'm 48 and married. Grew up in Northern Wisconsin and have a lake home there (where my tractor lives).
I'm in the Twin Cities. I'm a systems and software engineer for a small outfit. I design electronic devices with small computers (called micro-cntrollers) and write the software for them. Until my latest job I was mostly in the medical field (measuring pressure in the bladder, urine flow rates and quality of erections).
I now design test equipment for a semi-conductor manufacturer.
I have a 2006 Jinma 354LE with the Y485 4 cylinder engine, an LW-7 backhoe and a ZL-30 FEL. Also a 7' backblade, a 60" box blade, a 60" brush hog, a 60" tiller (stenciled in China as a "TILCER"), a carryall and a boom pole.
Modifications made so far are a Prince PTO-7A pump for the backhoe (per Bob Rook's advice), a tiltmeter, some rear view mirrors, a Northern Tool filter head/filter on the hydraulics, lowered the ROPs a bit to fit into my garage, mounted a fire extinguisher on the ROPs, and just completed upgrading the FEL valve with a Brand valve body with float and regen.
I hope the above hasn't been too dry, I've just tried to put it all out there. You'll be hearing more, and probably already have from the other sites.

Hi Tom and a warm welcome to CTW.
".....lowered the ROPs a bit to fit into my garage...." I sure would be interested in seeing how you did that. Please start your very own thread and post some pictures and a description of all your mods. Some good pics of your tractor and all your implements would be very cool to check out too. Please tell us all about your "TILCER" in the "Equipment/PTO section.

Please start your very own thread and post some pictures and a description of all your mods. Larry Larry: I took a large number of pictures this weekend with that very thought in mind. When my wife and I got home from the cabin I eagerly opened the camera to retrieve the memory card - which wasn't in the camera. So, unless I get up there this weekend (unlikely), it'll be a couple weeks. Lowering the ROPs was no great achievement, I just needed a few inches to clear the 8' garage door - drilled a couple new holes to lower the brackets that hold the canopy (gained me a couple inches), and drilling new holes in the canopy allowed me to lower the canopy further onto the brackets got me a couple more inches. In fact, 'lowering the ROPs' was a mis-statement, all I really did was lower the canopy. Sorry for the confusion. I'll post pics when I can. Thanks.
