I'm pleased to announce, we got the transaction done, we've sold our family business, even in this terrible financial climate! My wife put together the following announcement, to let our friends know, we can finally be considered "normal" and can finally start attending all the functions we have heretofore had to miss. I just wanted to let you guys know, it finally happened.
Dearest Family & Friends,
We have some exciting news to share! After much consideration and soul searching, Tim & I have decided to undertake a major change in our lives.
When we began our business 19 years ago, we hoped it would one day be able to pay the rent and put food on the table. Many thought we were crazy (some knew we were) while they watched us pour so much of ourselves into our venture. We were rewarded with a business that not only provided for us, but for many others as well. It grew beyond our modest dreams into a much respected company, well known for its quality and service. Unfortunately, the workload and responsibility have only increased as the business has prospered. We can see the next stage looming around the corner and have decided to let others take the reins. While it has been a wonderful ride, we would like to explore other paths and perhaps take a moment to smell the roses along the way.
A famous 18th century satirist and scientist, George Christoph Lichtenberg wrote, "I cannot say whether things will get better if we change; what I can say is they must change if they are to get better."
While we are not exactly sure what will happen down the road, we'll be taking some time to adjust to life without the daily pressures of running the company. I have already vowed to start a vegetable garden next year, go to art classes and be humiliated by Shea at the track mor e often. Tim will be re-familiarizing himself with his road and mountain bikes and joining me in the yoga studio.
As for the next career‚ we will be keeping our options open until we find the perfect opportunity for each of us. Before we decide anything, we thought we'd check out these great new concepts called Moderation and Balance. At any rate, there will be no opportunity for boredom until after we finish building our mountain home / workshop near Yosemite in the next year or so.
We'd also like to take this opportunity to apologize for missing your: birthday party, day trip to the beach, holiday gathering, summer boating invite, night out with the girls (boys), wine tasting, wedding, family reunion, social gathering, get-together, art reception, museum opening, and/or any and all other festivities that we have passed up over the course of the last 2 decades. You've been patient. If you can stand to take another risk, keep us on your invite/contact list!
Now I get to spend some time checking out my new back yard!
