With the engine warm the gauge read just about 40c. [about 105f] The only thermometer I had top temp is 120f. It went to 120 right now. So it may be the wrong sender. The part of the sender that extends into the engine is a little shorter, other than that the senders look the same.

My Radiator cap on the Jinma 354 has just fallen apart, it never was good quality. Does anyone know of an alternative ? I seem to remember a thread about the same thing but can't find it, it may have been on the old board. We don't have a "Napa" down here so an equivalent like say "Ford 150 Pickup 3 litre gasoline engine" (as an example) would be great . I am still managing to use the old one with a little effort, but can honestly say in all my experience of motors (extensive) this is the first one to rust to death !! think the engine could do with a flush as well judging by the rust in the water.

Howdy Dick! I found the thread where I did the cooling system maintenance and replaced the radiator cap. It's on the very bottom of page 8 Jinma section. Sorry to say it's a NAPA! perhaps someone resourceful can cross it over to some make and model vehicle or cross it over to another brand that you have. What are some of the more popular auto parts stores you have down there south of the border? Got any Pep Boys, AutoZone, O'Reilly auto parts Car Quest? Here is the thread: CLICK HEREIf no luck I can send you one. Larry

Thanks Larry (and for the offer), I should be able to find an equivalent with the NAPA reference number I think. We don't have Autopart chains here, we have parts departments at Garages and the odd "do it all" shop that can be a Gold mine if you can work it. Dick

I was going to put a new thermostat in my 304 with the Y 480 motor as per Larry's post. The thermostat housing and the thermostat are about 1/2 the size of the one in Larry's pictures. Just to let you know check the size of your thermstat first. I think I can use one off the self. Thanks

Hey Bud good advise. This mod is specific to the TY395 engine, hence the title of the thread "Jinma 354 low operating temperature (TY395 engine)" But the basic concept could apply if the construction of the T-stat housing is similar in that it does not seal properly If your Y480 motor is running cold then it could be 1 of 4 things. 1. The T-stat is too low an operating temp to begin with. 2. The T-stat is stuck open or is opening at a lower temp than it should 3. The temp gauge / sender is way off, verify temp with an IR temp gun. 4. The issue of construction is such that water is always bypassing the T-stat as illustrated on the first page and first post of this thread: I'll gladly trade you a starter switch for that T-stat you cant use. I think mine is starting to stick or not opening as far as it should. I've hit close to 100*C a couple of times after initial warm up, but then it slowly creeps back down to the correct 82*C. BTW those switches I ordered aren't here yet, UPS delivers at my place around 5 - 6 pm, so maybe today? I'm at the very end of his route. Larry
