While using my grapple the wrong way moving some large pieces of oak I twisted the grapple jaws. I straightened the jaws out pretty good but then noticed I had also slightly racked my FEL arms so one arm is 1in higher than the other which makes my bucket crooked.
I decide to try and twist the FEL straight again by use of a chain and a tree stump. I was in 4 wheel drive low range pulling in reverse and with the wheel turned to the right.
I was pulling to "beat the band" when I heard a LOUD metallic snap come from the left front wheel housing. I unhooked the chain and now saw the left wheel would turn and then lock up solid, then spin again.
I was near the garage and I was able to slowly nurse the tractor into it`s berth. I immediately started tearing the wheel housing apart to see the full impact of my stupidity.
I found I had broken two drive gears quite nicely in the top end, looking at the parts illustration they are ser no 21 and 24 respectively.
Here are the broken drive gears.
I also had a leak in this wheel due to a long missing felt washer that had allowed dirt and debris in which caused an oil seal failure.
I ordered the needed parts from Tommy`s place Affordable Tractor and dealt with Jerry, a very nice fellow and a pleasure to deal with.

Here are the new gears installed, I pressed then into place using a large bench vice.
For the seals I once again used a scrap of 2in PVC pipe and a large rubber mallet to seat them, there are two seals placed back to back, and the all important felt washer goes last.
All went well with the wheel assembly and no leaks, I just have to learn to live with the listing to starboard fel bucket.
