I just purchased a 6' Caroni flail and a new driveshaft was included with the purchase. I noted there was no slip clutch and did not see any shear bolts readily visible.
Do you use a slip clutch with your Flail? I think the addition of one may require shortning the drave shaft.

I think it has a belt drive which will slip if you have a hard contact episode.

You're right. I didn't think about that.

Sure enough the belts do slip. In fact they burned up after mowing about 8 acres of light to moderate grass/weed growth. I removed and replaced them with gates belts from NAPA. The replacements were very slightly shorter and required some pulling and prying to get them on. Because of that the tensioner spring is stretced a little tighter. I hope this will keep them from slipping as much.
The original belts seemed to be of poor quality.
