Hi everyone. I have been gone a while with work and my recent back surgery and continuing recovery but have run into a tractor problem.
My son has started using the 354 since I am down for the next few months and when we checked the fluids the other day, all was OK...except for the fuel pump. Where there should be nice, clear, unscented compressor oil we found nice, clear diesel fuel.
I used a pointed paper towel to suck out what fluid was in the dipstick tube and it very quickly refilled itself. My sniff and finger test (very technical and highly accurate) indicated it was diesel fuel.
After speaking with Larry G, I was thinking about pulling the priming pump off and seeing if the gasket and/or o-ring(s) are intact and undamaged. This is in lieu of dropping $500 for a new EPA pump.
I am just unclear of how the fuel would have gotten all the way across to the oil reservoir unless there is a failed internal seal. I am also a bit leery of pulling the dipstick reservoir off in case there is some hidden internal part that will go flying.
Does anyone here have pertinent experience with this problem and/or a solution (Tommy, Ronald etc) or am I doomed to run it till it fails and then buy a new pump (ouch).
I also would be greatly interested if anyone has found a manual and parts diagram for the fuel pump...assuming it exists. I feel it should be a replaceable seal/o-ring (i.e. from HF or the like since they stock Chinese O-ring kits).
Any help (or pity...hahaha) is appreciated.
