These boxes can be had for $9.95 each at Colemans Military surplus in PA. Shipping on two was $15. Apparently these are getting scarse, I found some on Ebay but the shipping was more. Can anyone tell me how these get mounted to the FEL
These boxes are excellent, they should last a lifetime. I wasn`t able to mount then to the lower fel frame because the 284 is too small. I settled on the left side fel upper arm. I used a piece of electricial 1in deep Kindorf strap which I mounted by drilling and tapping two bolt holes. Mounted and painted the strap, and using spring held Kindorf nuts I bolted through the center of the box and used large fender washers for extra support. The 1in Kindorf strap gives you the offset clearance you need to open the box doors. It is mounted about 3ins forward of the rear upper fel hinge bolt. It is now a handy hand hold for getting on and off the tractor, very sturdy, I can stand on it. I might mount the other one the same way on the other side, or just forward of this one on the left side. Right now I`m using the unmounted box to store my bought yesterday welding rods. After 20yrs of sitting idle I`ve restored my gas powered portable 175amp DC welder to running condition. I practiced welding scrap steel together all afternoon, made the wife nuts. But like riding a bike it finally came back to me.
Mounted the second ammo box on the opposite loader arm to use as a toolbox. Used the same method as with the first, took 30min to mount.
In case anyone is still looking for these, they sometimes are available here.
