I wired the new GM 65A alternator into my system at the same time I was wiring for the grapple solenoid. This allowed me to cure the under powered charging system and provide additional power for the future canopy lighting. I needed a new belt that was 1" longer than my orig. belt since I had changed the GM pully out to a 2-1/2", 5/8" W pulley. These circuits and the solenoid power wire are terminated in GM Weatherpak connectors for protection from the elements. The lighting circuit plus one spare are also wired with 30A relays in addition to the fuses. I wired in a 4-block blade fuse holder adjacent to the factory holder and ran everything in convoluted tubing. All connections are crimped with heat shrink tubing for protection. I removed the regulator and tapped the sense and 12v signal wires for the alternator into the only keyed-on connector in the former regulator wiring. The alternator then has a HD 8GA wire from the POS post to the starter POS post that connects to the battery. I did not disconnect the wires at the alt. amp gauge but the factory wires that went to the alt. are cut, folded over and heat shrunk for protection. I will eventually replace the amp gauge with a volt meter. I also rewired the dash ground with a heavier heat shrunk connection and used star washers and some paint removal for a good ground. Anyone interested in purchasing a slightly used regulator, alternator, belt and BLING BLING alt. pulley cover for a good price? ;D

Ken,
Nice alternator upgrade, as usual your work is impeccable. Hows it holding out? Does your amp gauge still read charging current? or does it now only read discharge like mine? After I removed my OEM alternator and upgraded to a GM, I added a volt meter, did you get a chance to install that volt meter? BTW - Nice set of air horns too! where did you mount the compressor for the horns?
