My JM 284 rear wheels measure about 58" to the outside of the wheels. I think that a 60" box scraper would be the ideal size for this tractor, but I can get a good condition, used 66" box scraper for about 1/2 the price of a new one. Would the 66" be too much for the 284 to handle?
Thanks, Bruce

I'd go for the used one, Bruce. That extra 6" will help t cover your tire marks on turns and such, and it is only 10% more load area for the tractor. You might have to drop down one gear for a full load with it, versus the narrower one, but I doubt it. My 304 Jinma drags a 60" box blade light it wasn't even there, fully loaded. Different story with the scarifiers all the way down, of course.
Worst case, if you decide it's too big, it would only take an hour with a sawzall and a buzz box welder to make it narrower. The money you'll save on buying it would pay for the sawzall and half the welder, too!

I agree with Rich. Performance wise I think you'll be at just as happy with the 66" as wiith a 60".

Bruce, I too agree with the 66" box blade. That's what I bought for Loretta's 284. It has no problem pulling a full load up hill even. Scarifying is all about traction, and I believe if there was enough traction, it would do a better job. Because when the box blade hangs up, the tires slip. I have her wheels (all 4) set to the widest position. The 66" box is perfect and still allows to scrape next to concrete pads without getting the tires on it. It has been a tremendous asset to have those extra inches. Just ask my wife. ;D My Kama has a 84" box blade on it. It too sticks out past the tires and has been more handy than a 72" one. Rob-

I don't care what any wife says! Size does matter ;D. When it comes to box blades, LOL.
