Red, Yeah, Rob and Larry have taught me all I know about modifying then beating the heck out of my tractor. ;D It did fairly well considering that I was maxing out my break-out force and my hyd. pressure is set at 2K psi so I don't blow anything. I am thinking about bigger cylinders ala L.G. and Goldie though. Paul, The hole is for a 30" dia x 84" L concrete encased water pipe section. My FIL will be standing it vertically in the hole and will fill it full of gravel and using it as a sump in his yard.

Brad,
Nope. I needed every bit of 4WD to get out, especially with a full bucket of dirt.
Larry,
It took about two hours or so to get down that far. I started by boring about a dozen holes +/- 36" deep. I would then dig with the bucket and tooth bar & remove the loose dirt; repeat several times; turn around and use PHD to bore further; turn around and repeat the whole process. I stopped digging when the hole was about 72" deep x 60" wide x 13'-14' long. My FIL dug out the rest of the semi-loose soil, rolled the pipe over and down the ramp. He then used his TO-30 to pull the pipe vertical. After this, he water jetted the inside and outside until the pipe sank down to the correct height (approx. 80" below grade...or is that "below grave"...). He will fabricate a traffic rated lid for the top and will then add compacted base around the pipe for the parking surface.
Basically, his driveway drains and perimeter drain flow into this "sump". His soil has a lot of sandy-loam so the water is absorbed very quickly. The sump has a pipe that will allow for siphoning out to a further drain pipe should the sump fill too quickly.
Oh...the pipe was F.R.E.E.
ROTFLMAO Rob!
I thought about digging out a pool like this but I could rent a tracked Bobcat and get it done faster...or better yet, sit back with some cold ones and watch someone else dig the hole... ;D
