Looking good Scott!! Did LA County make you pay for the hydrant line? I know how expensive THAT can be. I would assume you can tap off of it for your compound domestic and irrigation lines. What did they say?

In 92' when we ran our water lines the water company wanted 42k A local "approved contractor" did it for 18k The ductile piping was 12k alone. Fire hydrants were free- its the monthly maintence charge that's a killer. Our total run was close to 700' And the water company insisted on 8" lines. Water pressure at the house 160psi. Oh and for the best part after a year the water co will take ownership of the line, but you have to paid the tax, 33% of what it cost you. They own it so if it breaks it's their problem. ;D -Ed

I hope that's a tree root sticking out of the left side of the trench and not the local telephone cable?? Interesting pics Scott Matthew. No they fucking blasted right through a main Phone-line. The Utility locating service did not identify it so the contractor was shitting bricks... LOL Then he found out it was dorment...

What did they say? Yes I had to pay for the whole deal... 5000.00 for Civil Engineering 600.00 Topo Survey 6400.00 for Plan Check to the county 3300.00 for Inspection Fees to the county 16500.00 for meter fees and service to the county 58000.00 for pipe and install Total cost 89,800.00 I was able to have two nieghbors without county water pitch in 25K each... My total cost was 38K out the door. (Cheaper than a well) Water bill $42.00 per month (7480 gallons) .68 per 748gal flat fee overage

How long will it take them to finish that water line up? What's the length of that run with that 8" there, looks like a long ways? How much longer before you house is done? Should be done this week. Then the county has to final and then I should get my meter turned on in about 4 weeks...

Scott, What do you do with an 8" water line? How much do you have to pay for a water meter that big. That's huge.... Are you feeding a lake or something.... I use 2" PVC from my well to the homesite about 2000' away. Are you in LA or Kern county? What a pain in the rear to have to deal with LA county. Tom LA County Blows Cock!

Good God, 89 grand for a water line That is just wrong. Sorry to rub it in but when I bought my property back in '77 I had a 150 foot well dug and cased for 8.00 / foot total cost for well 1,200. The pump, bladder tank, wire, and plumbing I did myself for 600.00 I am falling off my couch, Unbelievable it costs that much now. If I had to pay that much, I would use the hell out of it, Las Vegas style fountain shows every night, pools, water park, but leave the hose running on the driveway for 10 seconds and I bet you get fined! Enjoy your first glass! Larry

Well I went out and seen the progress of the pipeline. Yesterday they pressure tested it and filled the line with Chlorine (they do this to kill any bacteria) Monday they will do a water test to prove that the pipeline is not contaminated. So after the test they will install the meters. Because my house is over 5000sq-ft I will be required to have sprinklers. Having sprinklers requires me to also have a low pressure back-flow device. This prevents any water from my house to flow back into the main. My meter box. 8" main and 1" service intercept. The blue tape indicates what type of utility it is if someone digs into it. The Hydrant. Still waiting for the install of traffic barriers. This is where my service intercepts the main. They use plastic and lots of tape to protect the materials from corrosion. This small fire hydrant looking device is called a "Flush Valve". Because the pipeline deadheads or ends here without looping back into the main somewhere else they require this so the water in the 800ft (now) main can be flushed out in case of contamination. The 2" coper line coming up next to it is for a "Blow off" Valve. This valve is for if the main breaks down stream and the water sucks out of the main the valve will allow air to scavenge into the main so the vacuum doesn't implode the 8" iron main. These are access pipes to the shutoff valves for the Blow-off and Flush valve. They will have iron covers on them and are located in the middle of the street.

Wow, quite a bill Scott!
I'm always amazed at the cost to get the utilities in. For my property I too was surprised at all the costs hidden and otherwise.
4600 Madera School Fee 6400 Permit Fees 12000 Well Drilling 740 Ft 3000 Well Pump 15000 Pressure Tank/Storage Tank/ Filter/Power to Well House/ Water to Fire Hydrant and Pad 4000 for Power in from PG & E 12000 for Pad Preparation 6000 for two septic systems 21000 for Engineering and Architect fees 2400 Survey
$86,400 Total
The list goes on, as I'm sure you are more than aware. I guess that is why developers rely on economies of scale to get costs down. With such a large outlay of money for a large project, without careful budgeting or oodles of money things can go south quick.
Your project is HUGE, I can imagine this is just the start of doling out the funds.

Ha Ha... Yeah the little one is my Grump.
Under the green cyclinder is a Blow Off Valve. Let's air into the system if the main breaks down stream so the Main doesn't collapse. Kind of like putting your finger on one end of a drinking straw and then sucking on the other end. I guess it will implode the main.
