Well I have been facing a few issues with my home building project. My 14 year old is starting high school in the fall and my 11 year old will be starting Jr high in the fall also. So I was worried they would start school out here in Ventura and then move away in the middle of the school year. Another issue is me being 80 miles away while the house was being built (by me). This was going to be a huge burden with driving and finding the time to travel and build. And the last issue was having a camp at the building site to store documents, grab a bite to eat or take a crap. Well problem solved! I just found a 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 1400sf, Double Wide mobile-home 1000 ft away. I bought it yesterday and we move in June 1st!

Hahaha, your own South Camp! That will be more like the Ritz compared to what we've been living in for the last 4 years. But the views of Nature are great. So glad to hear you are doing that. It will work out great for the kids and yourself, I'm sure. Rob-

Very nice looking camp. You call that a camp That's the nicest mobile home I've ever seen... If I can something that nice to my land, I don't think I need to build a house. Hmm... I wonder if there's a way to air lift something like that to my land. Tom

Tom maybe there is some way to get with a different land owner and make a new road. We can rent a D-6 and do it. I have 17 hours experience...LOL www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWkudY0_sI8

Great Move Fly! (pun intended) It will greatly improve the quality of life for yourself and ya family. Nothing sucks more that trying to coordinate from 80 miles away and the price of fuel wouldn't help either. Also your children will be able to see/share in the building process and experience that will be part of their lives. Gotta a few pictures of my sons when we were building and it brings back great memories Thanks for sharing -Ed

STARTED GRADING! After watering the land for 1.5 weeks we started grading today. Using the Rippers on the D-6 really helped allow the ground to soak in the 100,000+++ gallons of water. Today they started about 50% of the "Fill Key". The Fill Key is a huge trench (approx 15'x 5') where the dirt is removed and then replaced with compaction so the front of the pad doesn't sink. As they fill it and compact it with a sheep foot the geotech engineers take core samples at every foot and bring them back to the lab to pressure test. Then the contractor is allowed to start the "cut and fill" for the main pad. Then more fill with compaction and more core samples are taken. After the cut and fill are complete they then will remove 5' deep under the footprint of the house and garage +5' around the structure's parameters. Then they replace and compact with more geotech core samples. This engineered pad will allow the footings on the 8,000 foot structure to be a mere 12"x12" saving approx 2/3 the amount of concrete contained in the footings. When it's all said and done the total amount of dirt moved will be the equvilent of 490 10 yard semi dump trucks. Below you can see the cut slope in magenta and fill slope in blue. The remove and recompact under the structure is the yellow line around the building.

Oh man, what a project. You are gonna have some bucks sunk into that baby! The scope of your project is huge. Especially under the watchful eye of L.A. county. I hope your hair doesn't turn gray before it's over. Rob-

Wow! Awsome project. Your land looks fairly level. I'm supprised to see you have to move so much dirt.

Wow! Awsome project. Your land looks fairly level. I'm supprised to see you have to move so much dirt. Tom The problem is the house is 180+feet wide and 90 feet deep... I couldn't get the house to fit with less than 3 feet of cut. Thus requiring a grading plan... Once a grading plan is required, if your in for a dime your in for a dollar.

One cool thing about this is; I did learn how to read grading stakes,,, Those are the pink stakes you see around the site.
